If camping is your thing and you’re also wanting to have a nice time away from it all on the coast, you can satisfy both needs with a visit to Pacific Beach State Park. This gem of a state park is located on the Washington coastline, about 20 miles north of Ocean Shores. It’s primarily known as an RV type of park with plenty of spaces and all the necessary services. The park is small in size, only 10 acres in all. But it is much bigger than that when you throw in the beach area.

The beach at Pacific Beach State Park is the perfect beach for any getaway. It features soft sand near the park area, sturdy sand in the tidal area, a gentle surf that is easy to wade in and explore, and more. This is the beach where you can easily envision kite flying, sandcastle building, relaxing on the sand, campfires on the beach, and long walks. The nice thing is that it doesn’t take more than a few minutes to reach the beach from any point in the entire park.

Another interesting feature of the beach that really adds to the view, experience, and fun is the small river that flows out over the sand. This is the place for all your freshwater fun. The flow is slow and easy which is perfect for a lazy float right up onto the beach. You can swim there, kayak upstream, and more. Or you can just sit on the shore and enjoy the beauty laid out before you.

If an RV is not your thing and you don’t really fancy camping in a tent, Pacific Beach State Park has an option available. It is home to two yurts. Reservations can be made for a yurt which is essentially a tricked out permanent tent. The yurt is 16 feet in diameter, features a real hardwood floor, a bunk bed, and a futon couch. There are also outlets perfect for recharging cameras and phones, a heater for those cold nights, and an electric light. This is camping in style. You can show up and immediately have all you need for a fun time away.

Pacific Beach State Park is also right on the edge of the tiny beach community of Pacific Beach. This little place is sure to grow on you with its sleepy and laid back feel. There is a kite shop, a couple of small grocery stores, and a few eating establishments. A walk from the campground up into town is a good way to pass an evening.

All in all, a great time is easy to be had at Pacific Beach State Park. You can go there and truly get away from it all.
