Finding the right place to stay when on vacation, or even just a long weekend, is well over half the battle when it comes to designing the best time away from home possible. The North Cascades Highway is one of Washington State’s top draws. When you head there you really need a special place to stay and one place that expressly fits that requirement is Ovenell’s Heritage Inn.
Ovenell’s Heritage Inn is located just outside Concrete, Washington, approximately 40 minutes east from Interstate 5 and the town of Burlington. Concrete sits in an interesting part of the Skagit Valley, right in the middle of where it turns from agricultural to forested. This interesting lodging property encapsules that perfectly. It also goes above and beyond what most people expect to find once they arrive at their home away from home.
Ovenell’s Heritage Inn has a wide variety of lodging options. We felt lucky to be staying in the Bear Hollow guest house. There were other guest houses available too, as well as some very unique cabins. The landscaping around the house was very nice and added to the atmosphere. There was a wraparound deck that featured more than enough seating and views in different directions. Inside, we immediately noticed the attention to detail that included a very welcome feeling of it being deeply clean and inviting. Also, as the name of the guest house was “Bear Hollow”, it had been decorated in a fun bear theme that included expected touches like on the bedding, walls, and shelves, but also in some unexpected ways as well that do a very good job of showing how detailed this property is.
Ovenell’s Heritage Inn differs from most overnight lodging locations in that you don’t necessarily have to leave to have a great time. We felt comfortable just staying and relaxing in the house while there. The farm animals that were located around the property, not too far removed but also not always in front of you, really added to the experience. There are also some very nice trails to walk along that will take you past the pastures, through the local woods, and down to the Skagit River, all while not leaving the property. There are also play areas for children, plenty of outdoor seating, and special touches like barbecues and a firepit. Before we knew it, we’d had a lot of fun and enjoyed some great relaxation moments and we hadn’t even left the property.
One of the best parts about staying at Ovenell’s Heritage Inn in Concrete is the location. When we stayed there, we not only were able to of course access Concrete but also a lot of communities and attractions in the surrounding area. When you stay there, you’ll be surrounded by some great places to experience and visit. We got out and about and frequented restaurants and shopping both locally and nearby. Some of the communities worth visiting outside of Concrete include Sedro-Woolley, Burlington, Rockport, Marblemount, and Newhalem. There are also a lot of hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, lakes, creeks, and waterfalls in the area that are easy to get out to. In addition to all the great things available right there on the property at Ovenell’s Heritage Inn, we really appreciated all the awesome things there were to do that were located so close to us.
The North Cascades Highway is a very special place to visit. Traveling across it will lead you through rich agricultural areas, past fascinating communities, and within easy viewing of some of the most stunning natural landscape in the region. One of the best places to spend the night in the region is Ovenell’s Heritage Inn in Concrete. Between all that is offered right there on the property and all that you’ll be able to access within an easy drive, it’s sure to help make your trip through the area the best that it can be.
