Sitting right on the Washington coast, approximately just a half hour past Aberdeen and Hoquiam, is the small beach town known as Pacific Beach. Ocean Shores is about 20 minutes south and is more famous and more popular. That’s where you go if you want to rent mopeds, ride bumper boats and go carts, go miniature golfing, hit the movies, go golfing, or find the perfect restaurant or bar. If what you want though is a more quiet experience, if you’re looking for a vacation destination that features a laid back feel, Pacific Beach is for you.
Pacific Beach has just a few hundred residents and is very quiet. The downtown area features a couple of small grocery stores, some places to get espresso and gifts, a bakery, kite shop, and more. There are a few blocks of residential streets where full time residents and vacation rentals can be found side by side. There are also a couple of places to get a bite to eat too. Spending some time frequenting these little shops is a great way to get a better feel for the town and what’s going on there. You can really feel what it’s like to live in such a great little getaway.
The beach at Pacific Beach is the biggest draw and it’s very easy to see why that is. At the south end of the town is Pacific Beach State Park, a small campground with great access to the shore. There is also a small river that flows out of the mountains and across the sand there. These two sources of water combine to make an area that is very popular with adults and kids alike. On the north end of town is a beach access road where you can drive your vehicle right out onto the sand. This is the best way to drive up the beach and find a wide open spot that is all your own. Here you can fly kites, beach comb, play in the surf, go for a long walk on the sand, have a picnic lunch, or even enjoy a late night fire. Getting out on the beach while at Pacific Beach is one of the best ways to enjoy the area.
Pacific Beach is a fun little destination that really helps you to truly get away from it all.
